Uvriježeno je mišljenje da se Monte Carlo metode koriste isključivo kao alternativni numerički postupak za numeričku procjenu očekivanja slučajnih veličina. Pritom se smatra da se Monte Carlo metode trebaju koristiti onda kad su efikasnije od determinističkih. Međutim, postoje numerički postupci u kojima su Monte Carlo metode nezaobilazna alatka.
